2026 TSPE Travis Chapter Engineer of the Year

Jorge L. Morales utilizes his combined military, leadership, and civil engineering experience to help make Austin, TX one of the most desirable cities in the U.S. As the director of the Watershed Protection Department, his mission is to protect lives, properties, and the environment from the impacts of flooding, erosion, and water pollution.  

A former Sergeant of Communications for the U.S. Army, Mr. Morales understands the importance and power of transparent and consistent communication.  After serving in the military, Mr. Morales attended the University of Texas and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering and later returned to obtain an Executive Master in Public Leadership from the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Being a servant leader and promoting employees’ growth while serving our community are vital to Mr. Morales. 

2027 EOY Nominations

The TSPE Travis Chapter Engineer of the Year Award is the highest honor given to an individual TSPE member. Eligibility is restricted to engineers whose sustained and unusual contributions have improved the public welfare and the advancement of his/her profession. The candidate should be an engineer of recognized standing, preferably registered, and a citizen of Texas. â€‹Per tradition, the EOY is selected by a committee consisting of previous EOY recipients and TSPE Travis board members.
